The glass elevators are conceived keeping in mind the aesthetic contour of the upcoming new terminal building.
CHENNAI: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Monday opened two glass elevators in front of the domestic terminal of Chennai airport.
The elevators that can carry 20 people and offer a 360-degree view are aimed at helping passengers move from ground floor to walkalator level and to the departure floor.
People who get down on the walkalator floor will be able to move to the international terminal.
These elevators will ensure smooth movement of passengers between the arrival terminal and the departure terminals and between the domestic terminal and the international terminal.
The glass elevators are conceived keeping in mind the aesthetic contour of the upcoming new terminal building, according to a press release.
The glass lifts will require minimal extra lighting as daylight is available and provide the feeling of roominess inside. The high transparency will allow anyone to see through the elevator and from outside, essential for safety.
Airport director Sharad Kumar inaugurated the elevators.
