Bhubaneswar: Union electronics and information technology minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday asked the students of IIT Bhubaneswar to identify 10 application areas and uses of 5G technology.
The minister said a Centre of Excellence on 5G would be opened at the institute if the students come up with the innovative ideas. “I have asked the IIT Bhubaneswar students to find out 10 usages of 5G. If they manage to do this, a Centre of Excellence on 5G will be set up here,” Vaishnaw said during his visit to the institute.
IIT Bhubaneswar officials said the students will work on the 5G spectrum utility ideas and submit them to the minister. Encouraging students to opt for career in the startup field, Vaishnaw said, at present, India has 74,000 startups, a jump from 400 in 2014-15. Vaishnaw, who also holds the rail portfolio, announced a memorandum of understanding on collaborative research will be signed with Gati Shakti University under the ministry of railways to give thrust to the areas of transport engineering and communication.
