LUCKNOW: At least eight people were killed and about 16 sustained serious injuries after a collision between a double-decker bus and a bus in Barabanki district on Monday morning.
The incident took place on Purvanchal Expressway. Three people are reported to be critical and have been referred to KGMU Trauma Center in Lucknow for treatment, said the police.
Police said that the identities of the deceased were being ascertained.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the death of the passengers in the accident and has directed the officials for the best possible treatment of the injured.
Superintendent of police, Barabanki, Anurag Vats, said that a double decker bus bound to Delhi from Bihar was parked on a road side in Dayarampur village in Loni Katra police station area around 4.30am.
"In the meantime, another bus also bound to Delhi hit the double decker bus from behind reducing it to a pulp," said Vats.
Later, the locals and passersby informed the police and a team reached the spot along with an ambulance, said Vats.
Police said that as many as eight were declared brought dead by local community health center and others were sent for treatment to KGMU in Lucknow.
