Noida: The transport office of Noida is likely to be shifted to Surajpur in Greater Noida, where the government has identified 12 acres.
The current transport office has been operating from a small rented building in Sector 32. “We need sufficient space to conduct driving tests, examine the fitness of vehicles, etc. The current office does not have sufficient space for such works and the parking of vehicles. The entire compound is waterlogged even after a slight spell of rain,” said Siyaram Verma, ARTO (administration). Being small in size, the office also remains crowded most of the time.
The Noida administration is in the process of taking an approval from the government. “The district administration is preparing files that will be sent to the state government for approval. The Greater Noida Authority also needs to give an NOC as the area comes under its jurisdiction,” Verma said. The new office, he added, will be developed over two years after the government gives its approval.
The Noida transport office was supposed to come up at the Traffic Park in Sector 108, which has an administrative block, auditorium, cafeteria, solar blinkers, traffic signals, auto number plate reader, roundabouts, FOBs, underpass, track for practical driving test, railway track, etc. The project was completed in 2019. However, in January 2020, the UP government launched the commissionerate system in Noida and the commissioner’s office came up in the Traffic Park.
Noida residents said it would be difficult for them to go to all the way to Surajpur every time there was work related to their vehicles. “Like in Delhi, there should be separate transport offices for Noida and Greater Noida. This will take the load off one office and ensure efficient work. Noida’s population is ever increasing and young people need to get their driving licences. They will also need to visit the transport office for registration of their vehicles. Visiting Greater Noida will be difficult,” said Sanjay Gaur, former general secretary of the Sector 26 RWA.
At present, the transport department has 8,12,394 registered vehicles from Noida, including two-wheelers (4,99,022), four-wheelers (2,37,130), two-wheeler commercial (2,304), cabs/taxis (12,070), goods carriers (21,029), and auto-rickshaws (17,833).
