KANPUR: A man committed suicide by hanging himself after killing his son in Hanumant Vihar police area of the city. It was alleged that the family members secretly cremated both of them without informing the police.
The incident which took place on Wednesday came to light on Friday, after the man’s wife returned to her in-laws’ place from her maternal home and tipped off the police about the incident. After which the police informed the District magistrate and sought permission to exhume the buried dead body of the boy. Ashish Singh, resident of Hanumant Vihar Arra village, is survived by wife Neelu and three children Khushi, Vidya and a seven-year-old son Krishna. Ashish’s father Ram Kumar told investigators that his son Ashish was an alcoholic. “Due to which there used to be frequent quarrels between the daughter-in-law and the son,” said an official privy to the investigations.
For the last eight months Ram Kumar’s daughter-in-law was living with her youngest daughter at her maternal home in Pukhrayan village of Kanpur Dehat. While one other grand-daughter Vidya and grandson Krishna were living with Ashish. On Wednesday, Ashish committed suicide by hanging himself after killing his son-Krishna. Subsequently, the family members cremated Ashish on the pyre, while buried the child at the ghat itself.
On Friday, Neelu reached her in-laws’ house after getting information from the neighbors about the incident. Later, Neelu tried to inquire from the in-laws about the incident, but they did not tell her much. After which, she informed the police. Subsequently, the police informed the district magistrate and sought permission to exhume the dead body of the child. Thereafter, on the orders of the district magistrate, ACM (I) Rajesh Kumar reached the Dyodhi Ghat on Friday and sent the dead body of the boy for post-mortem after exhuming it. “The body of the child has been handed over to police for autopsy,” said ACM further.
