Jharkhand: Key accused in JSSC paper leak case held

RANCHI: Police on Saturday said they have arrested a person identified as Ranjit Mandal for allegedly leaking questions and answers of the junior engineer recruitment examination conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) on July 3.
Mandal, the key accused in the case, was arrested from Keonjhar in Odisha on Thursday and brought to Ranchi on transit remand.
Further investigations are on to find out if the accused connived with the government or JSSC employees in leaking the papers.
SP (rural) Naushad Alam said on Saturday, “The accused has confessed to his involvement in the crime. The mobile phone used for circulating the questions and answers has been seized. Mandal has also mentioned the involvement of several other persons in the crime.”
Earlier, Mithlesh Kumar Mahto, a resident of Mahuda in Dhanbad, had lodged a written complaint with the Namkum police station in Ranchi stating that the question and the answers went viral on WhatsApp groups hours before the examination.
Following his complaint, a case was registered under sections 467, 468, 420 and 120 B of the IPC, Section 66 of the Information Technology Act and Section 10 of the Bihar Conduct of Examination Act 1981.
A special investigation team was formed by Ranchi Police following which Mandal was arrested.
