
Mumbai, Maharashtra News Live Updates, July 25: The Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena has moved the Supreme Court against the proceedings of the Election Commission on the plea of the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde led group for recognition as the real Shiv Sena. The development assumes significance as recently the poll panel has asked the rival factions of the Shiv Sena led by Thackeray and Shinde to submit documents by August 8 in support of their claims on the election symbol — bow and arrow — of the political outfit. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has said unlike previous rebellions in the party, the revolt this time was aimed at “finishing off” the Sena. The Sena indulges in politics for Hindutva, whereas the BJP uses Hindutva for its political interests, Thackeray claimed while addressing the Sena workers on Sunday after inaugurating a ward level party office in south Mumbai.
In other news, the Mumbai police have started issuing notices prohibiting unlawful gathering to activists and NGOs approaching police stations to seek permission for protests at Aarey against the proposed carshed. Notices have been issued to two activists in the past two days and the police have also barricaded the spot where the car shed is due to come up. While the previous MVA government had moved the proposed car shed site to Kanjurmarg, the new government led by Eknath Shinde has asked the state administration to submit a proposal to move the proposed car shed location back to Aarey
Pune-based National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) has bagged a certificate of appreciation from the Union commerce and industry ministry for its efforts in spreading awareness of intellectual property rights (IPR).
The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM), generally known as the Indian Patent Office, awarded the certificate in recognition of the NCL's active participation in the National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM).
The Pimpri-Chinchwad police have arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly raping his 7-year-old daughter multiple times at their residence, officers said. The Southwest monsoon is all set to enter the season’s first break-phase starting July 27. There will be respite for states such as Maharashtra and Gujarat which have suffered due to floods, said IMD. During this phase, rainfall activity will largely be concentrated along the Himalayan foothills.
This would mean that the upcoming rainfall spell could help reduce the prevailing rainfall deficiency since June 1 over Uttar Pradesh (- 55 per cent), Jharkhand (-51 per cent), Bihar (-44 per cent) and West Bengal (-28 per cent). Several tarballs and jellyfish got washed ashore on Mumbai's popular Juhu beach, following which lifeguards asked visitors not to venture into the waters, a police official said on Monday.
The blue-coloured jellyfish and tarballs, which are lumps of solidified crude oil, surfaced on the beach here on Sunday.
The jellyfish have tentacles and their sting can be painful.
Hence, lifeguards advised people visiting the beach to stay cautious and avoid coming in contact with the marine organisms and tarballs, the official said.
A large number of jellyfish get washed ashore during the monsoon season every year.
A labourer died after falling from the 10th floor of an under-construction building in Malad East in Mumbai, a police official said on Sunday.
The incident took place on Friday and the deceased was identified as Manish Bhaliya (46), the Kurar police station official said.
"This is an under-construction 24-storey tower. Bhaliya fell from the 10th floor due to the floor being slippery. He fell from an open window next to the lift. He was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital," he said.(PTI)

The Mumbai police on Sunday arrested two more accused in connection with the killing of a 25-year-old man in Dharavi area of the city, an official said.
Earlier this morning, several residents of Kamraj Nagar locality gathered outside the Dharavi police station demanding that all the accused involved in the crime be arrested, the official said.
The police have so far arrested three accused in the case, and a hunt is on for one more person, he said.
Vishalraj Nadar, a kabaddi player, was allegedly bludgeoned to death during a scuffle with Mallesh Chitankadi (32) in Kamraj Nagar in the early hours of Saturday, the official said.(PTI)
Maharashtra on Sunday reported 2,015 fresh COVID-19 cases and six fatalities, taking the tally to 80,34,261 and the toll to 1,48,062, an official said.
The addition to the tally was less than the 2,336 reported on Saturday, but the deaths increased by one from the previous day when five people had succumbed, he said.
Of the new cases, Pune circle reported 680, followed by 462 in Mumbai circle, 313 in Nagpur, 209 in Nashik, 107 in Kolhapur, 85 in Akola, 81 in Aurangabad and 78 in the Latur Circle.
Three deaths were reported in Mumbai Circle, two in Nagpur and one in Pune circle, as per state health department data.
The recovery count increased by 1,916 to touch 78,71,507, leaving Maharashtra with 14,692 active cases.(PTI)
A road rage incident in Mumbai led to the abduction of a 37-year-old beautician riding a two-wheeler allegedly by a man and his sister in suburban Khar, following which three persons were arrested on Sunday, police said.
The accused woman, whose car dashed against the two-wheeler of the beautician, is identified as Aaya Kadawala and her brother as Faiz Kadawala, an official said.
The incident occurred on the Khar link road on Saturday late night when a car allegedly driven by Aaya dashed against the two-wheeler of the complainant, leading to a heated argument between them, he said.(PTI)
Rebel Shiv Sena MLA Gulabrao Patil on Sunday said party president Uddhav Thackeray did not give enough time to the party legislators during his tenure as Maharashtra chief minister.
The former minister also said that Thackeray should get rid of the coterie of party leaders around him.
"A 'sarpanch' (elected village head) ought to give audience to every elected representative of the local governing body. When Thackeray was just the party head, we could raise our complaints against a minister if he or she did not cooperate," Patil told a regional new channel.
"But after he became the chief minister, there was no one whom we could turn to for taking up our complaints of works not getting done. He should have given enough audience to the legislators," he said.(PTI)
The Mumbai police have made another arrest in connection with the death of a 25-year-old man who was killed in Dharavi area of the city, an official said on Sunday.
Residents of Kamraj Nagar gathered in the vicinity of the police station and demanded the arrest of two more persons involved in the killing, claiming that the CCTV footage showed four persons attacking the victim.

The team will set up their base in the port town of Jebel Ali, Dubai for a 19-day training camp starting from 25 July until 12 August.

At least 22 people were injured when a state transport (ST) bus toppled in Maharashtra's Solapur district on Sunday, police said.
The accident took place near Akkalkot around 10.30 am, when the bus was going towards Gangapur from Solapur, an official said.
The bus driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a bend, causing it to topple over, he said.
As many as 22 passengers sustained injuries and were admitted to a state-run hospital in Akkalkot, the official said.
A case of accident has been registered by the Solapur rural police, he added.(PTI)
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday alleged that Speakers of the Maharashtra Assembly and the Lok Sabha violated constitutional norms by recognising the rebel groups of party lawmakers.
The action is akin to a temple priest looting its donation box and temple trustees cutting its dome atop. Similar things are happening in temples of democracy in the country, Raut claimed in his weekly column Rokhthok in the Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana'.
He alleged the Centre was trying to save the current Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government to "finish off" the Shiv Sena.
