COIMBATORE: The Sulur police have arrested three people from Theni district for attempting to murder a 40-year-old man in full public view at Kalangal here on Friday.
The arrested people were identified as P Karuppusamy, 36, of Gudalur, his brother-in-law M Ranjithkumar, 26, of Kullappa Goundanpatti and his friend K Theivam, 37, of Andipatti.
Karuppusamy had leased out a piece of land to R Vasanth of Uthamapalayam in Theni to set up a poultry farm. After coming to know that Karuppusamy was pestering his wife Surya with phone calls, Vasanth had once thrashed him.
Last year, Vasanth and Surya moved to Appanaickenpatti in Coimbatore, where Vasanth worked in a textile mill. “Karuppusamy recently contacted Surya over phone and asked her to leave Vasanth and stay with him. She lodged a police complaint against him. Karuppusamy reached Appanaickenpatti in a car with the other two accused on Friday morning and started searching for Surya. When they saw Vasanth and Surya on a scooter, the gang rammed the vehicle using the car. The couple was thrown off the scooter. The gang attacked Vasanth using sickles. The miscreants escaped when locals rushed to their help,” an officer said.
The Udumalpet police intercepted the car at a check post and nabbed the trio.
