THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (SCTL) scrapping the proposal for the multi-level car parking project at the public office, the civic body looks forward to gain from the MLCP built at the corporation main office compound.
The decision to drop the proposal came after the firms which took part in the tender process cited space constraints and technical difficulties in setting up the MLCP. Also, this pushed the budget way more than the proposed estimate.
The proposal envisaged an automated multi-grid parking system to accommodate a minimum 80 cars. The SCTL also planned to construct a cafeteria close to the parking facility, which was meant for the public.
As per the project design, the basement portion was to be devoted to two-wheeler parking and the upper multi-level structures for automated car parking. The electro-mechanical car parking system was proposed to take the load of 2,000kg per car.
The civic body has been finding it hard to get enough users for the MLCP at the main office compound built under the AMRUT project. It has been running at loss since the launch. Recently, the corporation has decided to place advertisement boards inviting motorists to make use of the MLCP at the main office.
As SCTL dropped the project at the public office, the corporation hopes to highlight MLCP at the main office for those coming to the public office as well.
Earlier, the subway proposed at the East Fort under the integrated transit node of the Smart City project was abandoned. The feasibility of the project was pointed out and the vulnerability of the area to waterlogging and flash floods was also discussed, which further led to officials flagging the possibility of flooding in the subway.
