
India Monsoon Weather Live Updates Today: Most of the parts of Rajasthan have recorded above-average rainfall in this Monsoon season so far. According to the data of the Meteorological Department, the pre-monsoon and monsoon rainfall in the state has been 53 per cent more than the average. Meanwhile, average rainfall was recorded above normal in 25 out of the 33 districts, according to news agency PTI. Good rains have also been recorded in the Thar desert area, which has brought smiles to the faces of farmers and livestock animal rearers.
The IMD on Sunday issued an orange alert warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in eight districts of central Madhya Pradesh. Some major rivers in the state are in spate due to intermittent rainfall over the last couple of days, prompting the authorities to open sluice gates of some vital dams. The orange alert forecasts very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, ranging from 115.6 mm or above, at isolated places in Bhopal, Raisen, Rajgarh, Sehore, Vidisha, Guna, Agar Malwa and Shajapur districts.
Meanwhile, three people died and two others were injured in rain-related incidents in Medak and Siddipet districts of Telangana on Sunday, news agency PTI reported. Two people died on the spot and two others were injured in Reddipally village when a compound wall fell on a room where four workers of a factory were sleeping.
Intermittent light rain was experienced in Kolkata and its suburbs throughout the day on Sunday, as the MeT Department forecast similar weather on Monday. The eastern metropolis received 10.1 mm of rainfall in 24 hours till 5.30 PM on Sunday, the MeT Department said.
The weatherman forecast cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain on Monday, as drizzles throughout the day on Sunday making the holiday enjoyable after days of hot and humid weather.
The coastal areas in south Bengal and sub-Himalayan region in the north, however, experienced higher quantum of rainfall till 8.30 AM on Sunday. Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas district received the highest rainfall in West Bengal at 66.5 mm during this period, while Haldia in Purba Medinipur district got 61 mm rain and the seaside resort town of Digha 16.7 mm, the MeT said. A Maharashtra Congress delegation visited villages in Nagpur area on Saturday and Sunday to assess crop and other losses caused by heavy rains and sought Rs 1 lakh per hectare compensation for farmers and aid for sowing.
The Congress team was headed by former state minister Sunil Kedar and comprised the Nagpur rural unit chief Rajendra Mulak as well as Zilla Parishad and local leaders. They visited villages in Narkhed, Katol, Kalmeshwar, Saoner, Paseoni, Ramtek, Kamptee, Mauda, Kuhi, Bhivapur, Umred and Hingna talukas, a party functionary said.
"Soyabean, cotton, rice, tur, vegetables and fruits have been destroyed. Water has seeped into farms and has damaged Kharif crops severely. Many houses, roads, canals and nullahs have sustained damage due to heavy rains," Kedar said at a press conference. The administration must begin relief work on war-footing and provide compensation quickly, he said, adding that the delegation would meet the district collector and submit a report on their visit. Three people died and two others were injured in rain-related incidents in Medak and Siddipet districts of Telangana on Sunday, police said. According to Chegunta Sub Inspector of Police Prakash Goud, two people died on the spot and two others were injured in Reddipally village when a compound wall fell on a room where four workers of a factory were sleeping.
The deceased were natives of Bihar and identified as Ranbek (55) and Vir Yadav (48). In another incident, a youth lost control of his motorbike amid heavy rains and hit a road divider in Narsingi village of Medak district. (PTI)
It was a warm Sunday morning in the city with the minimum temperature settling at 27.1 degrees Celsius, the weather office said. The relative humidity at 8:30 am was 79 per cent, they said.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the city will witness a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain and thundershowers. The maximum temperature is likely to settle at 35 degrees Celsius. (PTI)
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Gujarat, Telangana and Tamil Nadu today. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao Saturday asked officials to be prepared to take up rescue and relief measures in view of forecast of rainfall in the state in the next few days. Rao, who held a meeting with ministers and officials on the rain situation in the state, said Telangana has been witnessing rains during the last couple of weeks.
Heavy rains are likely to continue in the interior districts of Tamil Nadu till July 27, the regional meteorological centre (RMC) said. It has issued a warning to 23 districts for today. “Heavy rain is likely in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Salem, Kallakurichi, Karur, Namakkal, Tiruchirapalli, Perambalur, Madurai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Thenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari districts,” a bulletin said.
Authorities in several parts of Chhattisgarh, including Raipur, were on Saturday asked to stay alert for flood-like situations due to heavy rains since the previous day. Bijapur in south Bastar is worst-affected with several smalls rivers and rivulets flooded, leading to disruption in normal life for people, an official said, PTI reported. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has asked district collectors, superintendents of police and urban bodies to be on alert in view of cyclonic rains in the state, an official statement said. (PTI)
