PATNA: Refuting BJP state president Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal’s claim, state RJD chief Jagadanand Singh on Saturday said none of the party MLAs had cross-voted in favour of NDA’s nominee Droupadi Murmu in the presidential election held on July 18.
On Friday, Jaiswal had claimed that eight RJD MLAs had cross-voted for Murmu as they were unhappy with the style of functioning of leader of opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav.
“I was with the MLAs even after the polling, and none of them showed any sign of cross-voting. If something is done on the sly, it shows on the face. There was no sign of it,” Singh said while talking to mediapersons.
Singh also made light of the status that Jaiswal commands within the BJP as its state president. “At one time, he was district president of the RJD (in West Champaran). I can say that even a district president of the RJD is capable of becoming the BJP state president. In BJP, a big internal fight is going on,” Singh said.
In reply to the NDA’s charge that there was desperation in Tejashwi to become CM by re-aligning with JD(U), Singh said if Tejashwi was desperate to become the state’s CM, it was because the common people of the state themselves were desperate to get free from the rule of the NDA governments in the state and at the Centre.
“Tejashwi is natural leader of the people and he will wait till his time comes instead of stooping to any low to become CM,” Singh said, alleging that Nitish had “stooped low” to become the state’s CM by joining hands with the BJP.
Singh cited the choicest epithets exchanged by the then PM Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, when the latter was with the grand alliance in 2015.
“The grand alliance had got the mandate, but Nitish later switched sides and joined hands with the BJP against whom he had invoked the choicest epithets (during the campaigning of the 2015 assembly elections),” he said.
