Varanasi: The Indian Institute of Technology (
BHU) Varanasi and Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) Tezpur Assam signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to foster the rate of drug discovery and development projects for military veterans to strengthen the defense front of India.
The MoU was signed on Friday by the IIT(BHU) director Prof. Pramod Kumar
Jain and D.V. Kamboj, Director, DRL, Tezpur Dr UK Singh, OS & DG (LS), DRDO, Prof Vikash Kumar Dubey, Dean R&D, IIT (BHU), Prof SB Dwivedi, Dean (Academic Affairs), IIT (BHU) Varanasi and others were present on the occasion.
Prof. Jain said, “This MoU will give a much-needed platform to work together to solve the unmet technical and medical needs of the security forces in the field, cross-pollination of ideas to nurture new technologies and their adoption and dissemination for wider benefits of security forces at large.” He said that one of the key components is continuous education of security officers to make them abreast of the latest in research and technologies relevant to the security needs.
As per the MoU, DRDO will support drug development by providing advanced and unique research facilities that will enable the faculty and scholars to conduct cutting-edge research in the area of drug development and transform it into a centre of excellence. DRDO scientists and engineers will work with the academic research faculty and scholars in addressing the different scientific problems to find innovative solutions. DRDO will facilitate advanced research to utilize technology outcomes in futuristic applications.
The major purpose behind the MoU is undertaking and facilitating multi-disciplinary directed basic and applied research in the jointly identified research verticals. The researchers will get the excellent opportunity to work in advanced areas of research such as advanced computational modeling and simulation, advanced electromagnetic devices and technologies, brain-computer interface & brain-machine intelligence besides, and so on. The focused research efforts at the center will support the growth of indigenous technologies in these critical areas for the ministration of the severe problems faced by the military personnel as per the prime aim of this MoU. Faculty members and researchers in various Engineering and Science departments of IIT (BHU) Varanasi will participate in the research programme/projects of the same. The Institute will provide cooperation and consultancy, duly supported by research for feasibility studies and prototype development. The partnership between DRDO and IIT (BHU) Varanasi will significantly boost the efforts towards enhancing sustenance capability, obsolescence management, indigenization, and achieving self-reliance.
