Coimbatore: A tipper truck driver was charred to death after the vehicle came in contact with a live wire at Kumarapuram near Periyanaickenpalayam here on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as K Arumugam, 38, of Attur in Karur district, an employee of SKP Construction in Karur. The firm had won the contract to lay a road on Mettupalayam Road at Kumarapuram bus stop near Narasimmanaickenpalayam.
“Arumugam had loaded asphalt concrete at Sri Blue Metals at Karamadai in the truck and reached the worksite at Kumarapuram on Saturday around 4am. When he was unloading the material, the tipper bucket came in contact with a live wire and fire broke out. Arumugam was electrocuted and charred to death. The vehicle was also completely gutted,” a police officer said.
Personnel from the Periyanaickenpalayam fire station put out the fire after 20 minutes of struggle. The charred body was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem. The Periyanaickenpalayam police have registered a case.
