Coimbatore: The DMK government is spreading lies that the Union government forced it to increase the electricity tariff, said
BJP national women’s wing president and Coimbatore south MLA Vanathi Srinivasan. She led a protest against the government near the south taluk office on Saturday.
Vanathi said the proposed increase in the electricity tariff would affect all sections of society. “The operating cost of industrial units would also increase. The DMK government is throwing allegations against the Union government to mislead people,” she said.
She also alleged that corruption is rampant in the state. “DMK functionaries are demanding 30-40% of project cost as commission. The chief minister has no time to check them and it is evident that he has no control over his ministers and police personnel,” she alleged.
On increasing fuel and LPG prices, Vanathi said fuel and LPG are imported from other countries and the Union government has no control over the prices in the international market.
Responding to electricity minister V Senthil Balaji’s statement that the BJP should protest their own governments in Gujarat and Karnataka, where electricity tariff is much higher than Tamil Nadu, Vanathi said BJP units in respective states will take care of the local issues, and it is protesting here as it is concerned about
Tamil Nadu people.
