Panaji: The directorate of education (DoE) has asked schools to implement the 200 hours of remedial
teaching for weak students to close in the learning gap left by the Covid pandemic.
The directorate has also asked schools to provide data on the remedial teaching conducted on a monthly basis, failing which, action will be initiated against the school head.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant had said recently that teachers will be asked to mandatorily conduct remedial classes to ensure that students cope with the loss in learning caused by the pandemic.
“The Covid period has created challenging situation for all, especially the student community. After a long gap, the students are back to school and thus they are bound to have difficulties in learning. Further, the teachers have to regularly evaluate learning outcomes of the students and undertake remedial measures so as to overcome the learning deficiencies of their students,” the circular by director Shailesh Zingade states.
It states that as per proviso to Rule 20 (1) of the state education regulations, every teacher is expected to devote up to 200 hours for remedial teaching.
“It is the duty of the headmaster to ensure that the remedial teaching is planned and implemented in his/her school and to arrange for special remedial teaching of the children belonging to weaker sections of community as also other children who need such remedial teaching, by drawing a regular monthly programme in consultation with the teachers, and review the progress periodically,” Zingade has said.
The director has said that schools have to submit details of the remedial teaching provided to the number of students each class wise. Schools later also have to report the improvement shown by the students based on the extra classes conducted.
“The same has to be submitted on monthly basis in the first week of subsequent month to the ADEI’s offices of the respective taluka who will in turn hand them over to the directorate within a week’s time. In case, the head of institution fails to submit the information, action deemed fit will be initiated. The circular comes into force with immediate effect,” the circular reads.
