LUDHIANA: The MC general
house meeting has been scheduled for Monday in which the pending demand of contractual sanitation employees will be taken up.
The employees had earlier staged a protest for over a month outside MC zone A office near Mata Rani Chowk and held a chain hunger strike for nine days. The protest had ended after local bodies minister Inderbir Singh Nijjar had met the employees outside zone A, assuring them that the process to regularize their jobs has been started. Around 3,500 employees will be regularised once the resolution is passed in the MC house and it gets nod of the government.
Meanwhile,
BJP councillors held a meeting with party district president Pushpinder Singhal on Saturday to discuss issues to be taken up in the meeting. One of the councillors claimed that in the resolution, the officials have proposed regularisation of only sanitation employees and sewer cleaners, but they will demand inclusion of peons, gardeners and drivers in the list. The employees who are working in suvidha centres since 2013 through outsourcing should be hired on a contractual basis as they are not getting enough money, the councillor said, adding they will also demand regularisation of employees hired up to March 31, 2022.
Sandhu said they would discuss the issue in detail with house members and will send the resolution to the government for approval.
