Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee held a protest, condemning the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoning party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Former minister B Ramanath Rai said that the BJP government at the Centre has been using central agencies to threaten Congress leaders. He was speaking at a protest meet organised near the Clock Tower in the city on Friday.
“Sonia Gandhi is being tortured mentally through ED for false accusations. Sonia Gandhi could have become the Prime Minister, but she has refused to accept the offer. She has no greed for power. Efforts are being made to denigrate the Congress and frighten leaders through the ED. However, the BJP government in Karnataka has given clean chit to their leader K S Eshwarappa in the case of abetment to suicide, in connection with the death of Belagavi-based contractor Santosh Patil. They have been protecting leaders of their party. No ED inquiry is being carried out on BJP leaders. The BJP has been misusing the investigation agencies,” Rai said.
Former MLA Madhu Bangarappa said that the BJP has been taking the nation towards destruction. “It is condemnable that the BJP has been torturing Congress leaders,” he added. Former MLAs J R Lobos, Shakunthala Shetty, B A Mohiuddin Bava, former MLC Ivan D’Souza, KPCC vice-president Mithun Rai and former mayor Kavitha Sanil were present.
