Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has decided to probe the alleged ragging of a student at the ANM training centre hostel in Deogarh district.
The OHRC passed the order on July 19 after hearing a petition filed by Ragging Free Campus Abhiyan’s Tejeswar Parida. He alleged that a first-year auxiliary nurse and midwife (ANM) student from Sambalpur was facing physical and mental torture by her seniors for the last three months at the hostel on the district headquarters hospital campus.
The commission asked the director (investigation), OHRC, to conduct an inquiry into the matter and submit the report within one month. The next hearing will be on August 29.
The OHRC also heard two more petitions filed by Parida. In one case, the OHRC has made an interim recommendation to the DGP for setting up an 24x7 anti-ragging helpline number in the human rights protection cell.TNN
