GREATER NOIDA: The Gautam Budh Nagar Bar Association on Friday boycotted work over the arrest of advocate Sunil Fauji by the Dadri police.
Sushil Bhati, the president of the Bar Association, said a group of local farmers in Palla village in Dadri were on protest over their demands of increased compensation for their land.
“Sunil Fauji, who retired from the Indian Army and joined the court, was supporting the local farmers. On July 19, Fauji had visited his native village, Chithera in Dadri, from where the police arrested him,” he said.
Fauji was produced in court and sent to judicial custody. The advocates on Friday protested and submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate’s office, demanding his immediate release.
Rajesh Kumar, the station house officer of the Dadri police station, said that the Greater Noida authority had acquired land for the Ganga Jal project. “The farmers led by Sunil Fauji had forcibly stopped the project work. We registered a case against him under Section 151 CrPc. He was arrested and the work of the Ganga Jal project has now resumed,” he said.
