PANAJI: PWD minister Nilesh Cabral on Friday said in a reply tabled in the assembly that Goa has a shortfall of 85MLD of treated water each day. The total demand for the entire state for treated drinking water is 645MLD, while the water supplied in 560MLD at present. Cabral said that rising migrant influx and growing industry and trade is leading to rise in demand for water.
“Considering growth in industry and trade, the influx of migrant population and the rise in local population, efforts are being made to meet the future demand through augmentations of water supply schemes and the construction of new water treatment plants,” said Cabral.
He said that at present ten new water treatment projects are planned, which, once complete, will add 257MLD to Goa’s water supply.
