GUWAHATI: Guwahati zone of the CBSE recorded a pass percentage of 92.06, almost on a par with the national average of 92.71, in the Class XII board results, which were declared on Friday.
The Class X results, however, came as a disappointment for the region, with 82.23 pass percentage - about 12% short of the all-India success rate of 94.4%. Guwahati region, which encompasses eight northeastern states, emerged as the lowest-scoring among all 16 zones in Class X boards.
While Trivandrum region topped in Class XII boards with 98.83 pass percentage, Guwahati stood ninth - ahead of Patna, Bhopal, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Noida, Dehradun and Prayagraj regions.
"We are happy because Guwahati zone results are very close to the national average. This year's results cannot be compared with last year's performance because in the previous year the results were based on statistics," KK Choudhury, director, Northeast at CBSE, told TOI.
From the Guwahati region, 52,676 candidates appeared, of whom 48,450 passed. Girls performed better than boys with a success rate of 93.06 pass percentage, while the pass percentage of the boys was 91.88.
With 99.04%, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) produced best results among various categories of schools from Guwahati zone.
Second on the list was the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) which recorded a pass percentage of 98.67, followed by independent or private schools (97.14). Government schools in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim settled at the bottom with 85.32%.
In Class X results, the pass percentage of Guwahati region was 82.23. While girls' pass percentage was 82.43, the corresponding figure for boys was 82.05. Of the 66,139 candidates who took the exam from the Guwahati region, 54,385 passed.
