Coimbatore: The RS Puram police have formed a special team to nab a woman, who attempted to murder her 29-year-old son at Sukrawarpet.
Coimbatore Medical College Hospital authorities had alerted sub-inspector K Sugumaran about K Kumar of Sukrawarpet, who was admitted with burn injuries on Thursday afternoon.
Kumar, a construction worker, told police that his mother Rani poured kerosene on him and set him ablaze.
The mother-son duo, natives of Sivakasi, had moved to Coimbatore city for work seven years ago, police said. “Kumar was in love with a woman hailing from a different community. However, his mother did not approve the affair and fought with him over the issue. On Thursday around 12am, Rani picked up a fight with her son over the love affair and poured kerosene on him and set him ablaze.
He managed to put out the fire, but suffered burn injuries to his face, neck, abdomen and back,” a police officer said.
Kumar was taken to CMCH in a 108 ambulance. He has sustained 38% burn injuries, doctors said.
