NEW DELHI: At least six persons died after a truck ran over a group of kanwar devotees from Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident happened around 2.15am on Saturday.
According to police, one kanwariya who was hospitalised with serious injuries, also succumbed during treatment.
"Five kanwariyas died, another seriously injured after seven Kanwar devotees were moved down by a truck around 2.15 am today, at Sadabad PS in Hathras. They were en route to Gwalior from Haridwar with their Kanwars," ADG, Agra Zone Rajeev Krishna had earlier said.
The truck driver managed to flee from the accident spot.
"A probe is under way into the incident. We have received information about the driver, he will be nabbed soon," added Krishna.
