Belagavi: Upset after his girlfriend broke up with him, a youth committed suicide by hanging himself after killing her at Basav Colony here on Friday.
The deceased youth is Ramachandra Basavanteppa Tenagi, 26, of Budigopp village in Saundatti taluk, while the murdered girl is Ranuka Kenchappa Panchannavar, 29, of Madlur village in the same taluk.
Sources said Tenagi was studying MA in political science at Rani Channamma University. Renuka was working as a nurse in a private hospital here. It is said that both were in relationship for over two years.
Renuka was living in a rented house at Basav Colony, while Tenagi was a hostel inmate at Malmaruti Extension. According to police sources, he had arrived at her room late at night. Before that he had informed his parents that he was going to end his life along with his lover. After that he switched off his phone.
Since it was late at night, his parents did not know what to do at that time. They visited APMC police station on Friday morning and informed them of the situation. Police traced Tenagi’s phone’s location to Basava Colony. Renuka’s room was locked from inside. Police broke open the door, only to find the dead bodies of the duo.
The body of Renuka was on a bed in a nude state, while Tenagi was found hanging in the bathroom.
Police found a death note from Tenagi in the room, in which he blamed Renuka for deceiving him. “I gave up my future because of her. I gave her everything. But at last, she is telling me to forget everything between us like a dream, as she wants to break up the relationship with me. She cheated me, so now I don’t have any other option,” the death note read.
DCP Ravindra Gadadi said Tenagi had strangled Renuka with her dupatta.
Speaking to media persons, Basavant Tenagi, father of deceased youth said his son was getting ready for CET examination. “He had come to his native village on Tuesday and returned the same day. He shouldn’t have done this. We would have arranged their marriage if they had informed us, as the girl too was from our community,” he said.
A case has been registered in APMC police station.
