GURUGRAM: The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) will soon begin the repair and maintenance of rainwater harvesting systems in the public buildings falling under its jurisdiction. MCM officials said that a private firm will be deployed to carry out the cleaning for three years.
“There are two provisions of the cleaning that will be covered, one is general cleaning for nine months and another is intense cleaning for the remaining three months of the year. The idea is to keep the rainwater harvesting systems functional throughout the year. The RWH structures which require redevelopment will also be constructed as per the requirement,” said Ajay Nirala, executive engineer, MCM.
There are 27 rainwater harvesting units which will be covered under the agreement. These are located in public buildings, schools and parks, said the officials. The MCM officials said that the residential RWHs fall under the jurisdiction of other government agencies.
“We have floated the tender and will soon finalise a private firm to repair and maintain the rainwater harvesting systems we had installed in our public institutions. The work will likely start after a month and the contract will be for three years,” said Nirala. For the residential societies, a joint team of the government agencies had last year conducted checks of the RWHs in residential societies and had directed officials to fix them.
According to the Gurugram administration’s data, there are around 404 RWH structures under the MCG’s jurisdiction, of which 165 are functional. Around 250 to 300 RWH structures are under panchayati raj institutions in the district.
