GURUGRAM: Police teams from four districts have expanded their search to those who gave shelter to the two main accused who killed deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Surender Singh Bishnoi while he was trying to stop illegal mining in the Aravalis earlier this week.
Police said on Thursday that those who helped the accused – Ikkar and Mittar – hide while they were on the run will be booked in a fresh case.
“We are identifying and booking those who gave shelter to the accused. All those families and people are being booked under the Harboring Offender Act,” said Nuh SP Varun Singla.
On Wednesday, police arrested the truck driver, 30-year-old Mittar who ran the vehicle over the DSP in Nuh’s Pachgaon, from Rajasthan. Another key accused,
Mittar’s cousin Ikkar, was arrested in Silkoh (Haryana) the day before. Four other accused are on the run.
On Tuesday, Tauru DSP Surender Singh Bishnoi was mowed down by a dumper truck carrying illegal mined stones when his team intercepted them in Pachgaon.
The DSP’s gunman, an assistant sub-inspector in his team, and the police vehicle’s driver managed to jump out of the path of the truck, driven by Mittar, but Singh could not. He died on the spot.
Since the killing, police said they have also launched a fresh crackdown on illegal mining in the Aravalis.
Some suspects have been detained for allegedly being involved in mining, and hundreds of dumpers and vehicles without number plates have been seized, police said.
“On Wednesday, during the search operation, we seized dumpers and vehicles without number plates and proper documents. We are verifying these vehicles. Once the verification is done, we will take the cases forward,” said SP Singla.
The state has deployed around 1,200 personnel – including district cops from Nuh, Rewari, Palwal and Bhiwani apart, as well as the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) forces – to track down the remaining four accused.
The four include the truck’s owner Arshad, who is also Mittar’s brother and another key accused. The others are labourers who allegedly helped the main accused carry out illegal mining.
On Thursday, Ikkar and Mittar were sent to five days in remand of the crime investigation agency (CIA), Bhiwani, police said.
