SHAMLI: Several school students in the age group of 8-15 years in Shamli have pooled in their pocket money to provide clean drinking water to pilgrims undertaking the kanwar yatra this season. The children, residents of Kheri Karmu village of Shamli district in UP, have set up a roadside camp where they have installed a water dispenser.
Besides, they also buy bottled water bottles and refrigerate them at some of the houses in the village at night and collect them in the afternoon to serve them chilled to the kanwariyas. Speaking about the initiative, eight-year-old Aryan Kumar said, "We also buy plastic water cups from the market with our pocket money." Another 13-year-old student, Shekhar Kashyap, added, "Encouraged by our family members, we came up with this initiative. It is better to serve the pilgrims than to play during our holidays."
A local social worker, Anuj Bansal, said that it was impressive to see the school students take up such an initiative. "It is heartwarming to see the kids pooling their pocket money for a noble cause. Their families and their teachers' education certainly have a huge role to play in this."
