GUWAHATI: The All Assam Government NPS Employees’ Association (AAGNPSEA) and five lakh employees of the state government have decided to observe a daylong total non-cooperation movement on August 22 to press for restoration of the old pension system for all government employees of the state.
“When the old pension system can be restored for employees in Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and
Punjab, the same restoration is not an impossible task in Assam. The National Pension System (NPS) has been implemented without giving heed to its impact on the retired life of the employees and society at large,” president of the association, Achyutananda Hazarika, said.
“If there is no response from the government after August 22, we will undertake a daylong ‘padayatra’ in September where more than 50,000 employees, teachers, officers, leaders of organisations and prominent personalities of the state will take part,” he said.
