Mysuru: Even a month after the model code of conduct was lifted, the road work that was started prior to it is yet to be taken up by civic authorities. Mysuru City Corporation authorities claimed the work order has been issued for the road works stopped due to the election process having been issued and it is happening as and when the rain gods show mercy.
Meanwhile, various other civil works too are being sanctioned and being taken up.
After the election code was lifted, it was raining and playing spoilsport, causing unnecessary delays in the execution of the work, which has compounded problems faced by motorists and pedestrians.
Sundar, a shop employee in Siddhartha Layout said, “I don’t know when the roads will be asphalted. Almost every main road inside the locality is in a bad shape and needs urgent attention.” G Roopa, ward 53 corporator (Kurubarahalli) said road works would be taken up once there is a respite from rain. Nearly Rs 2 crore was sanctioned for Vinaya Marga and another Rs 65 lakh for other interior roads, she said.
Ittigegud corporator Chayadevi M said about Rs 3.5 crore worth civil works in her ward are underway. After completion of the drainage repair works, asphalting will be taken up, she said.
Mayor Sunanda Palanetra too expressed similar challenges they are facing due to heavy and incessant rain. The recent forecast says there would be no rain and soon works will be taken up, she said. She claimed to have brought additional grants to the tune of Rs 25 crore from the chief minister and work orders are being issued. Under this grant, only select main roads and junction improvement works and the rest is being taken up by MCC, she said.
MCC Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy G told TOI that work orders are being issued to various civil works including roads and it is a continuous process. A few works are held up because of rains, he said.
