Kanpur: Biometric system has been made mandatory to mark attendance for all the students of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, said a letter issued by the university vice-chancellor Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak. The letter has been issued to the directors of all schools and departments.
The letter states, 75% attendance has been made mandatory and the students’ record of biometric attendance will only be considered paramount for evaluation, without which the students will not be allowed to appear for examination.
Several biometric devices have been installed at entrance of each and every department. The move will not only help the teachers to monitor the students’ attendance through a digital record, it will also be a milestone in addressing their queries regarding attendance and irregularities.
Besides, it will also increase student’s participation in activities organised by the university and help the faculty in studying the attendance pattern of irregular students and issue reminders and warnings to them.
Media in charge, Dr Vishal Sharma said that new attendance system will be applicable from 2022-23 session. The attendance record will also be kept by the VC office, he said adding that this will hep in reducing attendance related complaints.
The university has already made biometric attendance mandatory for faculty members and employees on the campus.
