Ludhiana: Former president, Municipal Council, Machhiwara opened fire on a liquor contractor outside his house on Tuesday night. Before that, the accused allegedly made a phone call to the victim and asked him to choose between two weapons to get shot at.
Police lodged a case against Daljeet Singh Gill on the complaint of Mohit Kundra, 41, of Prem Nagar, Macchiwara. In his police complaint, Kundra said that on Tuesday night, at around 10pm, he received a call from Gill, who started abusing him. The accused said that he has two licensed weapons, including a .32 bore revolver and .12 bore rifle. He allegedly asked him which weapon he would like to be shot dead with. Then he disconnected the call and minutes later, he said, there was someone honking outside his house.
“When I went outside, I saw Daljeet stepping out from a vehicle while his unidentified accomplice was sitting in the driver’s seat. Daljeet opened fire, targeting me, however I ducked and escaped. I ran inside my house and the accused opened fire, after which he fled from there,” he said.
Kundra alleged that Daljeet was involved in liquor smuggling and was facing trial in various cases. One week ago, police booked him for liquor smuggling and seized eight cartons of illicit liquor from his farm house. The accused suspected him of alerting the police about his activities.
Sub-inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO Machhiwara police station said a case had been registered under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and Arms Act against Gill and his aide.
