Allahabad: Nigerian national held for cheating people via fake matrimonial sites

PRAYAGRAJ: Sleuths of Cyber Thana, Prayagraj range on Thursday arrested a Nigerian national identified as Aungus Stanley, a residentof Owerrie in Nigeria from New Delhi on charges of duping crores from gullible people who wanted to marry women from abroad.
Police have seized three mobile sets, one tablet,eight SIM cards including four international sim cards, one passport with visaand one diary from his possession.
The VISA of the Nigerian national reportedly expired on January 5, 2022 and he was staying in India illegally. He was the mastermind of the racket who had been cheating people through fake matrimonial sites and social networking sites.
IG (Prayagraj range) Dr Rakesh Singh said after registering a case of duping through fake matrimonial site, a case under appropriate section was registered with cyber thana and a police team led by inspector Rajiv Tiwari was assigned to crack down the case.
The police team arrested the Nigerian national who was the mastermind and was cheating people through fake matrimonial and social networking site.
The arrested Nigerian told police that “They used to search IDs of divorsed \ elderly and high profile people on various social networking sites and prefer those who wanted to marry foreigners.
He also told police that we create fake ID of foreign women with fake photographs and send friend’s request. Once the friend request was accepted, we start chatting and sending vulgar messages and ensure that we are ready for marriage. The miscreantsalso assure to send costly gift items.
Before the gullible victims couldunderstand, the other gang member posing them as custom officer call the victimwith the claim that their costly gift items have arrived and they have to cleardues to receive it.
The gangmembers also seek money from victims on the pretext of depositing custom fee aswell as making passport and visa. These miscreants prepare their profile fromaboard and prefer to make call from foreign numbers to dodge cops.
