Porvorim: Over the past three
years, the food and drugs administration (FDA) has revoked a total of
one licence and two registration certificates of food business operators for non-compliance with the Health Code,
FDA minister Vishwajit Rane stated.
He was responding to a question by Santa Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes on the number of licences revoked by FDA over the past three years for non-compliance with the health code, along with reasons.
“The licence of Marbella Beach resort in Ashwem, Morjim was removed due to non-compliance to sanitary and hygienic conditions stipulated under schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006,” Rane stated.
In the case of Dinu general store and liquor at Dabolim, Shiroda, the registration certificate was revoked due to improper documentation, dispute over ownership of premise.
In Margao, Carvalho Bar’s registration certificate was revoked due to fraudulent documents produced.
With regard to surprise inspections and tests done at fish, fruit and vegetable markets since January 2021 and action taken, Rane stated that FDA tested 68 fish samples, 111 fruit samples and 92 vegetable samples.
“All the samples have passed,” Rane stated when responding to the question by Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa.
The department has no proposals for setting testing labs across the state, he stated.
The food lab at FDA, Bambolim tests all food samples of fish, fruits and vegetables and has a total capacity of 1,400 samples per year.
In addition to this, the QCI Lab tests fish samples at checkpoints of Polem, Patradevi and wholesale market at Margao.
The ITA Lab, a private lab approved by FSSAI, also tests samples. The FDA also utilises resources of private FSSAI approved labs for testing fish, fruits and vegetables outside the state, Rane stated.
