Thiruvananthapuram: The higher education department has informed that it would organize a function to honour the Kerala University (KU) for obtaining A++ grade in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) rating.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate the function at the university senate hall here on Friday. The university has achieved the highest rank in the recent rating by the accreditation agency. It won 3.67 points on a seven-point scale. The mother university had won B++ grade in 2003 and A grade in 2015 assessment.
“The A++ achievement was not an easy task. Since the minimum grade point required for achieving A ++ is 3.51, the varsity’s achievement of an average 3.67 grade point reflects the quality standards it achieved in various departments,” said higher education minister R Bindhu here on Thursday.
Only a few higher education institutions in the country currently enjoy the A++ grade. The grade point achieved by the KU is the same as the points achieved by the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, the rank of the KU slipped to 40 from 27 last year. The university authorities attributed this slip to the low score achieved by the university in the peer perception parameter. While it scored 21.44 points last time, it plummeted to 1.54 this year.
