KANPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was earlier expected to visit Kanpur on July 25 to address a gathering on the death anniversary of former SP MP Harmohan Singh Yadav, will now address the event virtually.
The change in program was necessitated as the PM will be in Delhi to attend the new President’s swearing in ceremony.
PM Modi addressing the Kanpur event is being seen as an attempt to mark a dent in the Yadav vote bank which has traditionally sided with the Samajwadi Party and its founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and now his son Akhilesh Yadav.
“With Mulayam’s chhoti Bahu already in the BJP and his younger brother Shivpal more than happy with the present SP national president, Akhilesh Yadav, the Bharatiya Janata Party may use this opportunity to address the Yadav community, said a political analyst.
The party is hopeful of positive results after winning the Azamgarh Lok Sabha bypolls – a parliamentary seat dominated by Yadavs.
People close to socialist politics are surprised to see the posters and hoardings regarding the event dotting all over the state, especially in the Samajwadi turfs like Etawah, Mainpuri, Etah and Kannauj. “The way the posters comprising pictures of Chaudhary Harmohan Singh Yadav and his family members including his grandson with Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been put up, surprised everyone particularly those who had been close to socialist politics,” said the political analyst while talking to TOI.
The message is loud and clear, said the analyst further adding, “PM Narendra Modi is all set to project Mohit Yadav as a youth leader of the younger generation of Yadavs parallel to Akhilesh Yadav.”
Experts also said that all this did not happen overnight. “This conclusion has been drawn after a lot of introspection by the people of the BJP and Sangh,” they added.
Chaudhary Sukhram Yadav was once considered close to SP patron and founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Efforts are now being made for his son Sukhram Singh Yadav, who has just now completed the term of Rajya Sabha member from SP quota, to join BJP.
People close to the family also told TOI that this family recently had a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is being said that in this meeting the Prime Minister was very much impressed with Mohit’s overall personality, and he had promised him that he would certainly join the event.
The Prime Minister chose July 25, the death anniversary of Mohit’s grandfather Chaudhary Harmohan Singh Yadav, and agreed to address the gathering virtually.
