Goa governor recalls India’s freedom fight

Vasco: Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, soldiers and millions of people in the Indian freedom struggle.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the concluding function of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ organised by the ministry of ports, shipping and waterways (MoPSW) at Mormugao port on Wednesday. It is being celebrated as ‘Jan Utsav (public festival) in the spirit of Jan Bhagidari (public participation)’.
While retired employees were felicitated at the function for their service to the port sector, CISF officials and stakeholders were felicitated for their achievements. Students participating in various competitions under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav were also awarded.
Chairman of Mangalore Port Authority Dr A V Ramana highlighted the growth in various sectors, specifically in the port sector, which he said has seen exponential growth in latent capacity, Cargo handling and infrastructure development in the last eight years.
