Coimbatore: The city police seized 40kg of ganja-laced chocolates worth 40,000 and arrested a 30-year-old Rajasthan native on Tuesday.
A police team led by assistant commissioners Manikandan, Velmurugan and RS Puram inspector Anandajothi searched a tea shop at Theppakulam after receiving a tip-off. The team found that the chocolates were sold to people, including students.
Each chocolate, weighing 5g, was sold for 100, Anandajothi said. “They were not manufactured locally. The accused had brought them from his native place,” she said.
Police also seized 135kg of banned tobacco products from the shop.
Police are on the lookout for five more people in connection with the case. “We are investigating whether such chocolates are sold in other parts of the city,” a senior police officer said.
