Spate of devpt works on cards for zoo at Bondla

Porvorim: The development of enclosures for various animals, a moat and a viewpoint for the sloth bear enclosure and renovation of enclosures for the tiger, leopard and sambhar are some of the works executed at the zoo located in the Bondla wildlife sanctuary as per the master plan, said forest minister Vishwajit Rane in the House on Wednesday.
He was responding to a starred question by MLA Cruz Silva.
Rane said that the holistic and integrated development of Bondla zoo, to showcase diverse fauna of the Western Ghats and other regions in naturalistic environment, is to be carried out as per the master plan of the Bondla Zoological Park. The details of major activities and upgradation included in the master plan have been submitted to Central Zoological Authority, he said.
Additionally, the government has proposed the installation of solar lights at strategic places.
The procurement of exotic birds and acquisition of a striped tiger, barking deer, pheasants, exotic primates, iguana, mouse deer, grey jungle fowls and sun conure birds have also been proposed.
The veterinary health care will also be upgraded with the construction of a post-mortem room, procurement of a digital X-ray machine and an ultrasound machine. Installation of a surveillance system has also been proposed.
For visitors, the development of recreation areas, a children’s park and a nature education centre will be taken up, the minister said.
