Punjab: In losses after plastic ban, trader ends life

LUDHIANA: Upset over the ban on single-use plastic products, owner of a plastic carry bag factory ended his life by hanging himself at his house in Dharampura on Tuesday night. The family came to know about the incident on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Vicky Gaba, 46.
ASI Sukhjit Singh, investigating officer from division number 3 police station, said the son of the deceased had been admitted to a hospital due to some health issue. Vicky's wife stayed at the hospital overnight and returned home in the morning. She saw her husband hanging from the ceiling fan and informed the police.
His wife stated that since the government had announced a ban on single-use plastic, her husband had facing losses. They were unable to repay bank installments.
The ASI said on the statement of the kin, the police proceeded with Section 174 of CrPC in the matter.
