SURAT: A team led by Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairman visited the Municipal School Board Surat (MSBS) school No. 300 and also Puna police station on Tuesday. At the school, junior staff told the committee members that the accused suspended principal Nishant
Vyas would call a few students to school even on Sunday evenings.
The committee comprising Paresh Kakadiya, in-charge chairman of CWC, Lalji Patel, social defence officer, and Kalpesh Patel, probation officer at the department of social defence questioned officials at the school and collected details related to the police complaint lodged against Vyas at the Puna police station.
"The priority of the CWC is to ensure that the identity of the child who went through the harassment is protected. We have questioned a few local officials and discussed the case details with the police," said Kakadiya.
The committee held the inquiry following representation by members of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for inquiry into the alleged sexual harassment of a school student by the principal.
Meanwhile, the committee is yet to examine the FIR in which the complaint has been registered under one section of Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act only. "I have not checked the FIR and am not aware if required sections are not added," said Kakadiya.
