NEW DELHI: Delhi lieutenant governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena on Thursday rejected chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's proposal to visit Singapore to attend the World Cities Summit next month.
The LG has also noted that a chief minister attending such a conference will set a bad precedent, reported PTI.
The LG also said the Delhi government does not have exclusive domain over the issues and it will be 'inappropriate' for a chief minister to attend it.
Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said "that Delhi LG advised Kejriwal not to go to Singapore was done due to mean politics" and added that they would apply for political clearance to MEA.
Earlier this week, Kejriwal said that he rarely went on foreign tours and when it came to talking about the development of the country, everyone needed to rise above party politics.
"I am not a criminal, but a chief minister elected by the people of Delhi. I am a free citizen of this country. I fail to understand why I am being stopped from going to Singapore for a conference," he said.
