Rajkot: The Gandhigram police have launched a massive search for a 16-year-old girl, who is missing from her foster parents’ home. The foster parents, working in the income tax department, had given the teen shelter a year ago.
The couple used to work for education of children from poor families living in Mafatiyapara, buy them books and uniforms and teach them too. The girl was one of the beneficiaries of their welfare work.
On September 21 last year, the girl had come to the couple’s residence seeking shelter stating that her father had died and her mother remarried. The girl has an uncle, but refused to stay with him saying that he harassed her a lot.
The next day, the couple informed the Mahila police station as well as the Pradymannagar police who called her relatives. The girl gave the police the same statement that she did not want to stay with her uncle.
Later, after some formal paperwork, the couple not only gave her shelter in their house but also treated her as their own daughter. The girl is an external student of Class XII.
On Tuesday morning, she left a note for her foster parents stating, “I love you mummy and papa... I am leaving. Please don’t worry about me.”
A complaint of kidnapping has been lodged with Gandhigram police station.
