MANGALURU: Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda) outgoing chairman Ravishankar Mijar said that the goal of transforming the Muda office into a people-friendly one has been attained. Mijar’s tenure as chairman of Muda ended on Tuesday.
Addressing reporters on Wednesday, to list out works taken up during his tenure, Ravishankar Mijar said that he aimed to make Muda a people-friendly office. He had taken charge as the chairman in June 2020, when the pandemic was prevalent. “Within 15 days of taking charge, I launched a help desk to help people visiting the Muda office. Additional parking space has been made available for visitors,” he said.
On residential sites, Ravishankar said that during his tenure, Muda planned three residential sites in Konaje, Kunjathabail and Cheliyar in Surathkal. The three layouts will offer 950 sites. Among the three, the Konaje site is in the final stage of development. Meanwhile, Muda is the first in the state, to lower the site plan approval fee to 20%. The same has been replicated by other urban development authorities across the state.
He said that the Urwa Market issue will be sorted out, and that the work on the Narayana Guru Circle will commence on Sunday. “Muda is waiting for the Mangaluru City Corporation to reimburse the funds used for the construction of the market. The Narayana Guru Circle will be developed at a cost of Rs 40 lakh. There is also a plan to beautify the Kottara road. In the initial stage, beautification of medians will be taken up, with emphasis on improving the green cover and seating arrangements for senior citizens.
The work of improving the city’s lung space—the Kadri Park—is on the cards. The district administration, horticulture department and Muda have planned to give a major facelift to the park. In the first phase, the lake and fountain inside the park will be upgraded,” he said.
