Greater Noida: Kanwariya, 75, mowed down on NH-91 while crossing road

GREATER NOIDA: A 75-year-old kanwariya was mowed down by an unidentified vehicle on NH-91 under Dadri police station jurisdiction on Tuesday night, officials said. Police have initiated the legal proceedings but have not received any complaints in this regard. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Brij Lal, a native of the Karauli district in Rajasthan. He was crossing the road to go to the washroom when the accident took place.
“We received information about the accident at 8.15pm on Tuesday following which a team reached the Nai Bill Road on NH-91 just before the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. Lal was rushed to Ashok hospital from where he was referred to a government hospital as his health deteriorated,” said a senior officer of Dadri police station. However, he died at night while he was being treated.
“During questioning, it was found that the devotee had returned from Haridwar after fetching water from the Ganga river. On Tuesday night, he was crossing the road in order to use the washroom when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle,” the police officer added.
The body was sent for an autopsy following which it was handed over to his family on Wednesday. Police have not yet received any complaint from the family of the deceased; however, they are checking the footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the area to identify the accused.
Meanwhile, another kanwariya was seriously injured after his bike was hit by a four-wheeler on Delhi-Meerut Road near the Kadrabad police post on Tuesday.
