LUDHIANA: A brief spell of medium to heavy rain flooded several areas in the city on Wednesday.
The parents and schoolchildren had a tough time as they got stuck on waterlogged roads. Worst affected areas included Tajpur road, Chandigarh road, Dholewal, Sherpur, Hambran road, Haibowal, Chander Nagar.
Dr Premjit Singh from Chandigarh Road said the MC had installed storm water sewerage on Chandigarh road, but it has not become functional yet. "As a result, we are forced to sit inside our houses because of flooding of roads."
Harish Jain, a commuter on Tajpur Road, said, "Roadsides are all concrete and there is no space kept for drainage of rainwater. As a result, water gets accumulated on the roadsides." He said some system should be adopted to avoid water stagnation.
MC officials claimed that there was no major issue of waterlogging anywhere as it rained for a brief period. They claimed that they had made all necessary arrangements to tackle any kind of situation.
