Malaysia's June exports rise 38.8% y/y, above forecast

KUALA LUMPUR : Malaysia's exports rose 38.8 per cent in June, boosted by strong demand for electrical and electronic products, oil & gas, and palm oil, government data showed on Wednesday.
The pace was above the 20.1 per cent rise forecast by analysts surveyed in a Reuters poll, and up from the 30.5 per cent growth posted in May.
Imports in June grew 49.3 per cent from a year earlier, data from the International Trade and Industry Ministry showed. Analysts were expecting a 30.4 per cent growth in imports.
Malaysia's trade surplus came in at 21.9 billion ringgit ($4.92 billion), higher than expectations of 18.1 billion ringgit.
