Coimbatore book festival to begin on Friday

Coimbatore: Collector Dr G S Sameeran on Tuesday said the administration was all set to host the sixth edition of Coimbatore book festival at the Codissia trade fair complex from Friday (July 22).
Speaking to the media, he said the 10-day event would be held in association with the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India and the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia).
The collector said the district administration had made arrangements to ensure participation of nearly one lakh students in the book festival. “The book fair will feature cultural programmes, musical events, speeches and debates every day. Similarly, 5,000 school students will take part in the Thirukural reciting event on July 28.”
Electricity minister V Senthil Balaji will inaugurate the book festival on Friday. The district administration has also arranged a few buses to the event venue to ensure hassle-free travel for the visitors.
The collector said the book festival was not held for the past two years because of the Covid-19 situation and appealed the public to follow Covid appropriate behaviour at the event venue. tnn
