There is speculation that the opposition will corner the government on issues such as price increases and the Agnipath scheme, on the second day of the monsoon session of Parliament.

As the presidential election polls were being conducted within the Parliament premises on Monday, the Lok Sabha session was adjourned until 2pm.

After the House reassembled for the afternoon session, protests against the Agnipath scheme and inflation met with an adjournment until Tuesday. During the protest against price increases and GST rate hikes, the Rajya Sabha was also adjourned for the day.

32 bills will be considered for passage and discussion and will be concluded on 12 August. The Prime Minister on Monday urged all the MPs to make the session a successful and productive one.

PM Modi told reporters that this is an extremely important period. Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is taking place. During the next 25 years, when the nation will celebrate 100 years of independence on 15 August, the nation should make a decision about the journey it is undergoing to take and the new heights the country can scale.

During the Lok Sabha session on Tuesday, The Indian Antarctic Bill, 2022 will be discussed and passed. According to the bill, the Antarctic Treaty and the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic marine living resources will be incorporated into national measures to protect the Antarctic environment and ecosystems.

As part of the Rajya Sabha agenda, it is expected that the Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Amendment Bill, 2022 would be considered and passed.

Both houses have received adjournment notices on a variety of issues. As a result of the imposition of 5 per cent GST on some essential items, Congress MP Manickam Tagore has moved an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha, and CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP Elamaram Kareem has given a suspension of business notice under Rule 267 since the price increase and GST have impacted essential items like milk.

Tiruchi Siva, Rajya Sabha MP for the DMK, suspends business notice under Rule 267 to discuss hikes in petrol prices leading to cost increases in essential commodities, while Manoj Jha suspends business notice in the Rajya Sabha to talk about the Agnipath scheme implications and RRB future prospects.
