Try as you may, you won't see the queen's guards break their stoic stance outside Buckingham Palace.

The royal guards are famous for their serious demeanour, with one guard once accidentally trampling a child who got in their way, never mind a bead of sweat collecting on his forehead.

But with scorching weather plaguing the UK, the guards have been photographed taking a sip of water while maintaining their position.

In the UK, forecasters said the current national record of 38.7°C weather could be broken as temperatures reach 40°C. Experts are blaming climate change for extreme weather conditions.

On Monday, Prince Charles gave a speech while visiting Cornwall with Camilla, People reports, and addressed the burning issue.

"If I may so say, those commitments around net zero have never been more vitally important as we all swelter under today's alarming, record temperatures across Britain and Europe," he said. "As I have tried to indicate for quite some time, the climate crisis really is a genuine emergency and tackling it is utterly essential — for Cornwall, the country and the rest of the world."
