DIBRUGARH: A man allegedly chopped off both the ears of a 16-year-old boy after finding him and his minor girl together at his residence in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on Monday. The accused, who has been identified as Chittaranjan Gogoi, was later arrested based on an FIR filed by the victim’s mother. The incident took place at Simaluguri village under Bordumsa police station.
According to police, the boy and girl were reportedly in a relationship, which he did not approve of. The victim, who is a student of Class 10, is undergoing treatment. Doctors have stitched both his ears back and his condition is said to be stable.
“The boy was reportedly in a relationship with the minor daughter of the accused. On Monday, he found both of them in his house and flew into a fit of rage. The accused first thrashed the boy mercilessly and then tied both his hands and legs and chopped off the ears,” Tinsukia SP Debojit Deuri said.
The SP added, “The accused himself called the police and said a boy has been caught while trying to commit theft and that the local people have thrashed him. Later when the police questioned the boy, the entire incident came to light. His mother has filed an FIR against the accused and he was arrested on Monday night itself.”
The police have booked the accused under section 326 of the Indian Penal Code for “voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means” and have initiated an investigation.
